Anstruther Community Kist

Anster’s Community Kist had its second best Saturday this year with visits from regulars and visitors. Many thanks to the SNP coffee morning who donated excess goodies from their Jumble and Coffee Morning. This certainly had an impact on sales.
This week the Kist will be giving £700 to the East Neuk Centre Trust. Folks should be aware that this Trust has also taken over the running of the former Library as well as running Anstruther and Cellardyke Town Halls, the East Neuk Centre and the Erskine Hall. It’s a huge commitment for this voluntary trust, running halls that were previously managed by the Council.
Next week money will go out to the AIA and the East Neuk Emergency Trust and then it will be the turn of the Community Council’s Cycle Path initiative. There is always lots to support. Also coming soon, an AGM so look out for details.

Anstruther’s Community Kist will be donating £600 this week to the Community Council’s Anstruther and Cellardyke in Bloom thanks to the Used Book Sale in Anstuther Lower Town Hall. We’ve had a good week in the former Library – though several people have come in looking for the former Library which has now moved up to the Waid. We have books, CDs, DVDs, vinyl, games and jigsaws. One young lad was very pleased to buy several videos which seem to be gaining in popularity on EBay.
The sale is open from 11-5, as is the shop. Saturday was our busiest day this year, but we still have lots of applications to raise money for this summer.

Anstruther Community Kist

This week Anster’s Community Kist will be giving £1500 to St Ayles Rowing Club to financially support the Regatta held on 6th May. The Kist is delighted to be help this Anster Club in the growing, rowing skiff community which originated at the Scottish Fisheries Museum.. It was also a pleasure for Elizabeth Gordon, the Kist’s volunteer manager, along with David Todd, to present the winners their medals at Legends Bar. There was a great atmosphere in a sport that includes people from all over Scotland – including Helmsdale, Port Seton, Portsoy and North Berwick. The teams of four rowers and coxes come in all ages and types which makes this club extra special and the Kist is proud to support it.

After a quiet period when there was also insurance and rent to pay, the shop is getting busier again and was able to give out £500 to Waid Academy’s Equestrian Team and a small grant of £50 to cover the cost of an advert in the Anstruther Philharmonic’s Concert Programme.
This will be a busy year with applications on the table from the likes of the Museum, the Cycle Path, the Community Council (for flowers), the St Ayles Rowing Team and Youth projects. 10% goes respectively to the A.I.A. , East Neuk Centre and East Neuk Emergency Fund. As well as donating why not have a look at our large collection of second hand books, CDs and vinyl.
The accounts have to be done by the end of February and we will be having an AGM in March. dates to follow.

The people of Anster are fairly stocking up on their baubles and tinsel at the Kist. We have also been donated lots of other stuff as folks tidy their cupboards for Christmas so it has been fairly hard work in the shop. Big sellers this week were jazz vinyl. The shop regularly receives donations of new vinyl and it is snapped up by several regular customers – all male. We were able to give £500 to the Community Council for the annual Christmas Party and at present there are £3000 worth of applications on the table so a busy few months ahead. Thanks to all the regulars and volunteers and Best Wishes for 2017.
