The Multi-Use Path Cycle Group would like to say a big thank you to everyone that participated in the Big Bike Revival Bike Swap & Maintenance event at Bankie Park on Saturday the 9th June 2018.
The weather was glorious and we managed to help a number of people in town get their bikes serviced and swapped. We haven’t got the final numbers yet, but we had 21 bikes given to us to swap (the majority donated) and a number of people took advantage of that, and also the Cycle Maintenance Crew from ‘Cyclepath’ from St Andrews worked tirelessly all day. They were Judy and Ethan who were ably assisted by Ali Macleod. More bikes are safer now as a consequence of their hard efforts.
Thanks also to Jim Thorpe and Jim Braid who did a fantastic job manning the Smoothie maker and logging all the swapped and donated bikes. The Smoothie machine was hooked up to a bike and willing volunteers used pedal power to make drinks whilst they waited for their bikes to be serviced. The Machine was provided by Ali Macleod from the Cycle Transition Group from St Andrews University.
Shealagh Crabb from Fife Council Bikeability who was on hand all day to give advice and information for those that, want to get involved in training. She also donated maps, bags, and lots of cycle freebies throughout the day.
As a Group we made about £45 overall from the bicycle repairs and purchased bikes and all monies donated will go towards the promotion and path being constructed within the town. This event was organised by the Cycle Path Sub-Group of the Local Community Council who are by name; Gerald Cooper, Elizabeth Riches, Carl van der Lee and Andrew Peddie.
A very big thank you goes to the public for generously supporting this event. The next Big Bike event is pencilled in for Sept 18 so keep a lookout for information on this Facebook Page.
