Today, Friday Aug. 7th, the first Seafari Explorer ferry landed in Anstruther Harbour with a full boat load of passengers who were eager to get ashore to begin exploring Anstruther.
Councillor Elizabeth Riches welcomed the arriving boaters with a book on Fife and a goody bag with booklets about the East Neuk and brochures about Anstruther businesses such as the fashion store Dos Mundos, the East Neuk Book Shop, the long-established health/nutrition store Nature’s Way, and the Scottish Fisheries Museum, among other business information.
Arriving just after 10 am, the journey was approximately 45 minutes on board the catamaran Seafari Explorer, licensed to carry 55 passengers. Sailing times differ slightly each day due to the tides but generally the outbound trip from North Berwick departs at 09:30 and then departs Anstruther at 10:30. The return trips are at 18:00 (North Berwick) and 19:00 (Anstruther) . Passengers then have the whole day to explore the other side of the river before returning home again.
The boat is comfortable and weather-proof with enclosed glass canopies protecting passengers from sea breezes, and bike racks are being installed so riders can bring their own two-wheeled transportation with them.
